Fiskars Long Handle Digging Shovel
This long handled shovel is great for digging up weeds and digging planting holes. The long handle provides great leverage and the hardened steel shaft won’t bend when lots of weight is applied. Because this shovel is all steel it is the heaviest shovel we have listed (it’s also the longest).

UnionTools Poly D-Grip Round Point Shovel
This shovel is much shorter and less than half the weight of the shovel above. The shorter length of this shovel makes it good for lifting dirt from the ground to something like a wheel barrow. The D-grip handle is also a nice edition that makes the shovel even easier to control. The shorter length does mean that you will have a bit less leverage when trying to uproot tough dirt or weeds. This shovel also has a wood handle which is strong and coated in finish but should be kept out of the rain to prevent rot.

Fiskars Steel D-handle Digging Shovel
This shovel is a great combination of the two above it. It is a little on the heavy side at 5 pounds but it is also has an all steel construction. The shovel handle is very brittle and won’t flex so that you the most leverage possible out of the shovel. The handle also has a nice rubber grip that covers the majority of the shaft. The D-grip handle is a really nice feature and the metal shaft won’t rot when left outside.

Spear Head Spade Reinforced Fiberglass with Cushioned D-Grip
This shovel is one of our all time favorite garden tools. This shovel has a unique patented design that spears into dirt with ease. The handle is made of lightweight, “specially reinforced”, fiberglass that is super strong and doesn’t flex under pressure. The D-grip at the end of the shovel is unlike most other shovel handles. It has a very nice rubber cushioned design. This shovel is a great length, it is long enough to provide a good amount of leverage and short enough to make lifting dirt out of the ground not very hard. If only want one shovel for your garden this is the one to get.

Garden Rakes
Flexrake Hula-Ho Pro Three-Prong Cultivator
This small three pronged rake is great if your need to till accurately around your plants without damaging them. Also the small rake head is super light making this garden tool very easy to move around and control. This rake has a very long, lightweight, aluminum handle that allows you to reach a large area from one position.

Bully Tools 12-Gauge 16-Inch Bow Rake
This is the classic reliable all around garden rake. Great for tilling, smoothing and spreading soil or fertilizer. This rake is super durable and strong with an all steel build. It still remains very light at only 3.4 pounds making it easy to move around.

Structron 36″ Head Rake
This next rake isn’t your typical garden rake. This is a 36 inch landscaping rake that is great if you want to evenly spread a large amount of dirt out in your garden in a short amount of time. This rake makes your soil look even and well groomed. We would recommend only using this rake after you have thoroughly tilled your soil. This rake isn’t intended for tilling soil or ripping up weeds. It has a super long lightweight handle that provides plenty of reach.

Pitchforks
True Temper 4-Tine Forged Spading Fork
This pitchfork will be able to withstand any prying, wrenching or scratching you can throw at it. It has 4 strong pointed tines that are thick enough that they won’t get bent and flexing is kept to a minimum. The D-grip handle good for lifting and moving things with the pitchfork.

Truper Tru Pro Manure Fork, 5-Tine, Fiberglass Handle
This pitchfork has a slightly different application than the one above. This pitchfork is designed to move and pick up things like hay or a pile of dead weeds. Its 5 long thin tines make it easy to stab into a pile of hay/weeds and lift them up while keeping the bundle mostly intact. This pitchfork with its lightweight end and lightweight fiberglass handle with good grip make it easy to move around. We would not recommend this pitchfork for any kind of cultivation or weeding.

Garden Hoes
Prohoe Field Hoes 7″ wide blade Fiberglass Handle
This 7 inch garden hoe has a hard sharp steel blade that will chop through roots and tough dirt easily. This tool can handle plowing digging and mixing of dirt. The head is attached firmly to the shaft and won’t wiggle around or come loose. The shaft is fiberglass and very lightweight.

This garden hoe is less for chopping and cultivating and more for plowing. It has a triangular shaped head which would make chopping through roots a bit more difficult. But this hoe head shape makes it ideal for plowing perfectly cut grooves to place your garden seeds in. The handle is wood so it would be good to keep this tool out of the weather.

Garden Claws
Garden Weasel Garden Claw
This tools from Garden Weasel is sturdy and well built. The handle and shaft are one piece and that is connected to the four angled prongs at the bottom. This tool is great for easily removing medium sized weeds and tilling up soil. All you have to do is pitch the claw into the ground on top of the plant and twist and the garden claw will uproot the weed.

Garden Weasel Gold Garden Claw Cultivator
This claw is a more expensive than the one above but it may be worth the extra money. The handles on this tool are longer giving you more leverage and they are angled at a way to make twisting the tool easier. Also the prongs at the bottom are a bit larger and angled better than the prongs on the claw above. Spending the extra money for this tool is not necessary but if you have a lot of weeds to pull it may be worth it.
