Power Tillers
A power tiller can be a very relieving tool especially if you have a large garden. Power tillers can make tilling the soil very easy while preparing your garden for a fresh batch of plants. They romove the need for a lot of weeding at the begining of a plant. In some cases you can use a tiller to dig a hole for your plant and skip the shovel all together. There are two types of tillers on this page, gas and electric.
We recomend that if you have a large garden or need to do a lot of heavy tilling that you get a gas powered tiller. A gas tiller will be able to provide much more power to churn the soil and uproot any large roots. If you have a smaller gerden, or a bed garden, or just don’t need the extra power, we recomend that you get an electric tiller. An electric tiller will not provide the as much power but it may not be necessary for your garden. Electric tillers also tend to be lighter, cheaper, smaller, and easier to maintain.
Gas Powered Tillers

The Mantis Tiller is very lightweight (only 20 pounds) but powerful enought to handle most larger scale home garden tilling jobs. The Mantis has 4 tilling wheels which can face either in or out depending on the tilling activity. It has soft rubber grip handles and is easily collapsible for smaller spaced storage. This tiller is also the perfect size for digging larger planting holes. If you have a smaller bed garden but still need a powered tiller we would suggest taking a look at our electric tillers here.

The tilling width can be set to different widths (6, 9, or 12 inches) depending on how large you want your rows. Another convenient feature is that this tiller has wheels separate from the tilling tines. This makes it more stable and easier to move and get out of ruts. Its major downside is that it doesn’t have a separate set of wheels in the back or front of the tines. This will make it a bit harder to control and move around. This tiller has the same comfortable handles as the last listed Mantis tiller and comes with a collapsable build for easy storage and transportation.

Southland Rear Tine Tiller
This tiller is a beast. This is what you want if you need to be able to crush and mix up hard dirt with lots of weeds and roots. This tiller has a huge 196cc, 9.8 foot-pound OHV engine. But with such a large and powerful engine, this machine is heavy. It weighs 176 pounds but it does have a set of large, high grip, wheels to make moving it easier. The wheels are also mounted in between the engine and the tilling blades with the engine in front providing a good balance for easier mobility. The handles do collapse but it doesn’t do much to decrease the size of this machine to make it easier to move or store. This is a very powerful machine that can take on any job but it may be more than you are looking for.

BLACK+DECKER Lithium Ion Cordless Garden Tiller
This tiller from BLACK+DECKER is cordless it works with one of BLACK+DECKER’s standard 20 volt Li batteries. Not having a cord is a very nice feature because it lets you take the tiller anywhere you like no matter how far away from an outlet. Also not having a cord attached means that you won’t be getting tangled up all the time or be crushing or breaking plants with the cord. This tiller comes with rotating blades unlike any others on this page. The blades rotate on a vertical axis instead of a horizontal axis. They till up the soil just as well and dig good planting holes, but they’re not quite as good at ripping out weeds.

If you don’t think this has enough power, we recommend you start looking for a gas tiller.
